About Our Training Programmes
We currently run a counselling training programme which is an approved programme by the Australian Counselling Association. There are a variety of modules which run as part of this programme including courses such as Grief and Crisis Counseling, Helping People with Psychopathology (mental illness), and Counselling Skills.
Certificate in Counselling

This certificate programme is an exposure course on counselling which will provide students an introduction to the basics of counseling skill and the techniques to work with different client groups.

It may be taken alone as part of personal development or in the pursuit of acquiring basic skills in helping. It may also be taken as preparation for more advanced training programmes in counselling. Students may use the Certificate programme as a way to gauge their personal interest in embarking on more advanced training in counselling.

OBJECTIVES

  • Gain a deeper sense of self-knowledge and awareness.
  • Gain a basic understanding of the major theoretical frameworks and practical aspect of counselling in contemporary context.
  • Gain basic knowledge of how to apply counselling skills to a variety of settings.
  • Render assistance through ethical procedures and referrals.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should possess at least 3 'O' level credits, including English or an equivalent recognized qualification. In lieu of the academic qualifications, mature applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

TOTAL COURSE DURATION

It will take a total of 12 weeks with 3 hours per class for once-a-week.

FEE

Course fee is set at $550. VCF grant is available for eligible staff working in a NCSS member VWOs.

INSTRUCTORS

Instructors will normally be from the same pool of instructors teaching the Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Counselling at Alive. In general they will have both counselling experience and postgraduate qualification in counselling or related field.

Advanced Diploma in Counselling
The Advanced Diploma is an accredited programme by the Australian Counselling Association. It provides the necessary competencies for those seeking to pursue direct counselling practice. Students who successfully complete the program and fulfill the necessary supervision are eligible for clinical membership from the Australian Counselling Association.

Students are required to complete 10 coursework units with 1 practicum unit. 5 units are deemed as compulsory and provide the foundation for counselling. The other 5 elective modules can be chosen based on the students’ interests. This program is currently only conducted on a part-time basis, approximately for 24 months (8 semesters). Diploma in Counselling

The Diploma is awarded by Alive Education Center, the educational arm of Alive Community Network. This programme is suited for individuals who desire to gain the basic competencies for counselling practice and those professionals who hope to use counselling skills to better perform their current or future role in management, personnel departments, educational institutions and even religious organizations.

Students are required to complete 4 coursework units. 2 units are deemed as compulsory and the other 2 elective modules can be chosen based on the students’ interests. This programme is currently only conducted on a part-time basis, approximately for 12 months (4 semesters). Each semester consist of 12 weeks. The Lecturers
Our lecturers are experienced current practitioners with adequate qualifications and ample teaching experience. These trainers have excellent academic and practical backgrounds. Our lecturers have at least a Master's degree in a relevant helping professional field and qualify for clinical membership in a recognized counselling association. Click here to find out more. Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the course, applicants must fulfill the following pre-requisites:
  • An A Level Certificate / Diploma or its equivalent
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Those who do not meet the educational criteria are invited to apply based on their working experiences.

Classes will run in blocks of 3 hours every week.
$550 per module payable in monthly installments. Staff and Volunteers from VWOs can apply for VCF subsidy. ACN also grants subsidy on a case-by-case basis. Course fee includes printed notes, excluding course textbook.
